Ho`ike Hula Shows
The sponsors of the International Waikiki Hula Conference have stages throughout Waikiki where people come regularly to hear Hawaiian music and see hula dancers perform their art. The locations are in hotels and on the beautiful grounds of shopping centers. In conjunction with the conference, we present hula shows at these venues on the first two evenings, performed by conference kumu hula and their halau.
Conference attendees join these shows to showcase, or “ho`ike,” a hula they learned that day from the same kumu hula presenting the hula show. Each conferee who dances in a show receives a lei and diploma, as shown below.
These hula shows always draw crowds of visitors and residents to see their programs, and offer the exciting chance to perform before a public audience on a Waikiki stage.
